Baptism is an important ceremony that signifies that someone has decided to become a Christian – a follower of Jesus Christ. At St Thomas’ we love to celebrate whenever someone comes to this commitment.

In the Bible, new believers were baptised publicly in a river. They became known as Christians in their communities which could often lead to persecution. That made it a costly decision and not one to be entered into lightly.

At St Thomas’ we help you to undertake appropriate preparation, spending time thinking about the Christian faith and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

For those wishing to baptise their children, this includes thinking through the commitment to Jesus that parents and godparents are asked to publicly declare, as well as looking at what it will mean to raise the child within the church family.

Each baptism service takes place as part of our Sunday morning service.

If you’re not a Christian or are still thinking through your faith in Jesus, but would like to celebrate the birth of a child, then we also offer a service of thanksgiving that might be more appropriate. This type of service presents no assumptions or expectations regarding the faith or lifestyle of the family who take part and requires no promises from them – exactly what many are looking for – while still ensuring you can thank God for and celebrate the gift of your child.

If you’d like to find out more, the first step is to come along to our Sunday morning service and speak to one of the team afterwards.
